All three northern German states have closed their islands in the North Sea and Baltic Sea to tourists.

In order to get the spread of the corona virus under control, the federal states of Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have completely slowed down island tourism. All islands have been closed to tourists since March 16th, 2020. Of course, this also applies to the sunny island of Sylt in Schleswig-Holstein, but also to all other islands such as Fehmarn, Rügen and the East Frisian Islands.

The ordinance therefore particularly affects all companies and trades on the North German islands, which understandably live off holidaymakers and on which visitors are dependent during the Easter holidays, which are after all a very popular travel time for holidays on the North Sea and Baltic Sea.

Hard times are ahead for the entire tourism industry. After all, for example, rents have to be paid and loans have to be repaid. However, if there are no guests and/or customers who can generate sales, this inevitably leads to serious or even existence-threatening consequences.

Sansibar Sylt sign

Corona virus: Sylt and all other islands in northern Germany are now closed to tourists.
